| dc.description.abstract | This paper aims to describe the requirements to become a secretary, the role of the secretary, the factors that influence work efficiency, the role of the secretary in creating company work efficiency at the Indonesian Maritime Academy (AMI) Medan. The assessment method used in this paper is a qualitative approach and deductive problem solving. A qualitative approach is a problem approach based on a description that is not in the form of numbers. Deductive problem solving is by reviewing topics in general related to discussions taken from library materials and then drawing specific conclusions. The results of the discussion explain that the requirements to become a secretary are quite diverse and a secretary must have many advantages, the requirements to become a secretary include: knowledge requirements, skill requirements, personality requirements. The role of the secretary is quite diverse, such as: company guard, information manager, right hand leader, secret holder, advisor for opinion, liaison or public relations, and as a nurse or protector. Factors that affect work efficiency include: discipline, responsibility, and work ethics. The secretary must be able to carry out his role properly and efficiently as possible to improve the company's image and company quality.
