Every organization, agency or company must carry out activities and activities related to letters. One activity that is very important for a company is the activity of correspondence. Letters are a means of communication that can contain secrets and information that are known to the recipient of the letter. Letters are still widely used because the information conveyed is in accordance with the original and there are no abbreviations in terms. The existence of a letter makes it easier for various parties to communicate in writing with companies, both government and private. Therefore, this study aims to describe how incoming and outgoing mail is handled at PERUMDA Tirtanadi, North Sumatra. The research was conducted at the Human Resources Division of PERUMDA Tirtanadi North Sumatra, the approach taken was a qualitative approach.
The results showed that the handling of incoming and outgoing mail at the Human Resources Division of PERUMDA Tirtanadi North Sumatra had not been carried out optimally due to: (1) officers did not sort incoming mail based on the classification of ordinary or important mail, (2) a lack of personnel or resources people in handling mail; (3) limited equipment for storing letters or documents, especially filing cabinets; (4) the limited space for storing letters so that the volume of letters continuously increases results in the space and storage equipment available being unable to accommodate letters; (5) inadequate office space facilities. Ways to solve problems in managing incoming and outgoing mail, namely: (1) adding mail storage space for the Human Resources Division (2) increasing the number of mail storage facilities, namely the filing cabinet, (3) providing special training on incoming and outgoing mail management to employees Human Resources Division.
