Soils with poor characteristics such as clay often cause problems such as soft soils with low bearing capacity. the low bearing capacity of the subgrade is influenced by the low california bearing ratio value of the soil. For this reason, a soil improvement method is needed that can overcome these problems.
The method used is two-stage stabilization using bukho rock ash and volcanic ash which aims to improve the technical properties of the soil, by mixing the soil with added materials at a certain ratio.soil improvement is carried out on soft clay soil. Variations in the content of the mixture of stabilizing agents added were 3%, 6%, 9%, 12% bukho rock ash, and 4% volcanic ash by weight of dry soil. In addition to physical properties tests, standard compaction and laboratory soaked CBR tests (soaked) were carried out to determine the CBR value soaked in clay soils with variations in the mixture of bukho rock ash and volcanic ash.
The original soil CBR value was 1.992%, this soil was classified as poor clay soil because the CBR value was <5%. Soil improvement using 3% bukho rock ash (ABB) and 4% volcanic ash (AV) was 2.192%, for 6% ABB and 4% AV it was 2.271%, for 9% ABB and 4% AV it was 2.391% , and for 12% ABB and 4% AV it was 2.471%. Two-stage stabilization with bukho rock and volcanic ash gave an increase in the CBR value along with the increase in the amount of bukho rock ash.
