On August 6, 1945 the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. The atomic bomb killed around 120,000 people, both those who died during the incident and those who died the following day, caused by radiation from the bomb. The dropping of the atomic bomb made Japan surrender unconditionally to the allies and marked the end of World War II. Before the explosion, the area was the political and commercial heart of the city. Now the site of the former atomic bomb attack is made into a memorial park called the Hiroshima Peace Park. The park was not rebuilt but instead developed into a peace facility. Inside the Hiroshima Peace Park there are heritage buildings and monuments that aim to remind humanity of the importance of peace and remember the victims. At the Hiroshima Peace Park every August 6, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony is held. The ceremony is closed by floating a lantern on the Motoyasu River as a symbol of peace. This paper aims to understand the history of the Hiroshima Peace Park and the Monuments contained within the Hiroshima Peace Park. This paper uses the method of literature and research results with similar topics.
