Japan is one of the countries on the Asian continent that has experienced extraordinary development in various aspects, both in terms of technology, culture, tourism and education. Some of the original castles or reproductions of castles standing in Japan. Kyoto Prefecture is centered on the historic imperial capital of Kyoto, and is one of only two Japanese "prefectures" to use the designation fu instead of the standard ken for prefecture. The new castle which is named 'Nijo Castle' is relatively new, in 1939. It actually consists of several parts including two separate palaces – Ninomaru Palace and Honmaru Palace. The castle area itself can be divided into 3 parts: the honmaru (main protection area), ninomaru (outermost protection area), as well as a number of gardens which are located around the honmaru, ninomaru, and in between. Construction began in 1601 by order of Tokugawa Ieyasu and was completed in 1626 under Tokogawa Iemitsu. To enter the palace, one must first pass through the beautiful Karamon Gate. The castle complex has been home to the Tokugawa Shogunate, and served for seventy-two years as the property of the Imperial family, gifted to the city of Kyoto in 1939, and has become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. | en_US |
