ABSTRACT
The problem that conventional safety devices such as fuses or MCBs is the large starting current of some loads such as induction motors. Starting current will couse the fuse to blow or the MCB to trip so you have to use a higher rating and this will reduce safety. To overcome this, the authors designed an OCR (over current relay) using atmega8335 microcontroller, relay, LCD display and ACS 712 current sensor to detect current and display data on the display. There are also 2 potentimeter to set the current setpoint and delay time. The delay time can be set from 0 to 10 seconds and the current limit can be set from 1 A to 10 A. the instrument is tested at a setpoint of 1 A and a delay of 3 seconds, a setpoint of 2 A with a delay of 5 seconds, a setpoint of 3 A with a time delay 10 seconds and a setpoint of 4 A with a delay of 0 seconds. Based on the test, if the current exceeds the setpont current, the timer will calculate and compare with the created timer. When the timer exceeds the limit and the current is still high, the protection will be done by disconnecting the relay, but if the current returns to normal beforethe setpoint, the relay will still work normally.
