| dc.description.abstract | This research discuss about English-Indonesian Code Switching as Classroom Communication in Harapan 1 High School Medan. This research aimed to find out the types of code switching, the functions of code switching, and the most dominant type of code switching used on teaching learning English process. This research focused on code switching used by English teacher and students in XI IIS 1 Classroom of Harapan 1 High School Medan in academic year 2019/2020. This study identified and described the types of code switching based on Poplack, the functions of code switching was seen by using Mattson and Huberman in Sert. This thesis is descriptive qualitative research. The researcher used observation sheet and recording as the instruments to find out the valid data. The data are words, phrases, and clauses of code switching used by English teacher and students in XI IIS 1 Classroom of Harapan 1 High School Medan. The writer found that there are 36 occurances of code switching used by English teacher and students in XI IIS 1 Classroom of Harapan 1 High School Medan, they are Inter-sentential switching with 52,8 %, Intra-sentential switching with 38,9 %, and Tag switching with 8,3 %. The functions of code switching found in this study are, topic switch, affective function, repetitive function, equivalence, and reiteration. | en_US |
