Soils with poor characteristics often cause new problems, one of which is the type of soft clay soil. Therefore, a soil improvement method is needed to change the characteristics of the soil. Two-stage stabilization using bukho rock ash and volcanic ash has the potential to overcome these problems.
The two-stage stabilization variation was carried out by adding bukho rock ash and volcanic ash. Stabilization of soft clay with 3% bukho rock ash and 4% volcanic ash, 6% bukho rock ash and 4% volcanic ash, 9% bukho rock ash and 4% volcanic ash, along with 12% bukho rock ash and 4% volcanic ash. The tests carried out to determine the potential effectiveness of two-stage stabilization with bukho rock ash and volcanic ash were standard compaction and laboratory CBR testing to determine the increase in the CBR value of the stabilized soil
Based on the results of the study, the optimum CBR value was 9,245% from two-stage stabilization of soft clay soil with variations in the added material of 12% bukho rock ash and 4% volcanic ash. The addition of 6% bukho rock ash and 4% volcanic ash obtained 100% soil density. The addition of 9% bukho rock ash and 4% volcanic ash obtained 100% soil density. The addition of 12% bukho rock ash and 4% volcanic ash obtained 100% soil density. This shows that the effect of two-stage stabilization based on percentage variations can increase soil density.
