dc.description.abstract Beams and columns are the main structural components whose role is to support the loads on a building structure. The beam functions as a horizontal reinforcing frame for the building, while the column functions to support the vertical compressive axial load. Analysis of reinforcement requirements for columns and beams is important to anticipate advantages and disadvantages of planned reinforcement. Analysis of reinforcement requirements was carried out on the Construction of the Office of the Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) in the Commerce District of Simalungun Regency, North Sumatra Province. Calculation of reinforcement requirements using the Bar Bending Schedule (BBS), which is a method that contains a list of reinforcing steel cutting patterns which functions to control the use of reinforcing steel and minimize material waste with the help of the Microsoft Excel application. The results of the analysis of the volume of reinforcement requirements for columns and beams using conventional connections are 51.857,89 kg, while the results of the analysis of the volume of reinforcement requirements for columns and beams using coupler connections are 50.800,55 kg. The comparison result between the volume of reinforcement required for columns and beams using conventional connections and collapsible connections is 2,02%. The calculation results for the cost of reinforcing columns and beams using conventional connections is Rp.897.141.497 whereas if you use a coupler connection it is Rp.878.853.486 Therefore, it can be concluded that the coupler connection is more efficient to use than conventional connections in terms of cost.
