dc.description.abstract This research analyze the female characters in the novel Holy Mother and their efforts in the midst of the conflicts they face in order to achieve their goals. The purpose of this study was to reveal the intrinsic elements that built this novel and fulfillment of the needs of female characters, namely the main character Makoto Tanaka and supporting character Honami according to Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs. In this aim, two main analyzes were conducted. First, the structural analysis of the Holy Mother novel includes characters and characterizations, plot, and setting. Second, analysis of humanistic psychology by using the concept of Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs. The theoretical used in this research is humanistic psychology, through library research and qualitative methods. The analysis phase is carried out by collecting relevant data, then analyzed with structural theory and humanistic psychology, after which the data are presented descriptively. The results of the analysis of female characters in the Holy Mother novel, Makoto Tanaka and Honami can achieve all the needs based on Abraham Maslow`s hierarchy of needs concept. Although in fulfillment they do various things to violate the law in order to achieve their needs. Because of that, it made them experience a mental setback because of following their latent desires. en_US
