dc.description.abstract | This study deals with the use of taboo language in this film “A Beautiful Mind”. This study aims at describing the study using taboo language in dialogue of mixed-gender, men’s and women’s talk in English speaking film. This study examines the differences of using taboo language in men and women speech and conversational strategies. Social phenomenon are closely to related to social attitude that has been applied as theoretical framework of this study (Trudgill 2010:73) the data analyzed covering the study of the sex differences between men and women connected with language, Taboo is associated with words are not said and in particular with words and expression which are not used. Based on the analyzes of the dialogue that has been known women use more taboo in same sex context, while the men useless taboo words in single-sex talk which in opposite to the results predicted before. Taboo related words are selected from dialogue with taboo topic in the film. Then, according to the semantic categories of taboo language, taboo words are categorized into five type : epithet, profanity, obscenity, cursing and sexual harrasment. Gender differences in use of taboo language are shown through figure contrast and comparison of accuracy frequency of each type. Based on the analysis of the dialogue that has been known women use more taboo in same sex context, while the men use less taboo words in single sex talk in the opposite to the results predicted before. | en_US |
