dc.description.abstract This research aimed to determine the kinds of sign language used and how the use of sign language in SLB Negeri 7 Jakarta, especially during the current COVID-19 pandemic. Humans are social creatures who communicate. One of them is Deaf. In contrast to communication between humans in general, Deaf people communicate using a special language, namely sign language. This study only focuses on one of the sign languages used in Indonesia, namely SIBI. The theory used in this research is Pierce’s Semiotics Theory through analysis applied to symbols or signs produced by Deaf students through hand movements. This theory also assumes that sign is something that can be communicated indirectly and included in non-verbal communication. Data were collected by searching for several books and journals related to the topic of this research. The research methos used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method with questionnaire and observation techniques. The results of this study indicated that SLB Negeri 7 Jakarta uses SIBI as the main language in the school environment between Deaf students and teachers. The use of SIBI on distance learning activities is used through online system, namely using a supporting renewable application.
