The Idanetae Bridge is a 30 m long pedestrian bridge designed for pedestrians, two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles to connect roads separated by rivers. The sub-structure of the bridge consists of abutments and foundations. This analysis was conducted to determine the abutment stabilization of the Leleseni Bridge in resisting working loads and to determine the safety factor of the abutment against overturning and shearing.
The abutment analysis is devoted to the stability of the abutment against overturning and shearing. The safety factor against overturning is determined based on the ratio of the active moment to the passive moment, while the safety factor against shear is determined from the ratio of the active force to the passive force. In addition to field data, this analysis requires testing of soil parameters in the laboratory. The parameters tested were shear strength and soil density in the field.
Based on the results of the stability analysis that has been carried out on this abutment, it is found that the value of the safety factor against shear is 11,966 and the safety factor for overturning is 3,127, thus the abutment is declared stable against shearing, overturning, and safe against working loads.
