dc.description.abstract Processing cassava into processed products such as chips requires a fast and efficient slicing process. Manual slicing often takes a long time, requires extra effort, and has the potential to cause accidents due to the use of sharp tools. Conventional cassava slicing machines are usually not equipped with adequate safety systems, so there is a risk of causing accidents, especially when users are not careful. Therefore, this research aims to design and build a cassava slicing machine equipped with a safety system using infrared sensors. This sensor detects the presence of hands or other objects approaching the knife area, so the machine will stop automatically to avoid accidents. The design results show that this machine is not only able to increase production efficiency, but also provide more protection to the operator, making it safer and more efficient than conventional slicing machines. In conclusion, the use of infrared sensor technology in this machine safety system is effective in reducing the risk of accidents and increasing productivity.
