In building planning, especially in building structures, it is one of the essential aspects that must be considered. Beams and columns are the main structural components of a building. The meeting of joints on the columns significantly affects the strength of the building structure against the shear force is caused by the earthquake. Therefore, it is very important to estimate the shear strength of the beam-column connection area.
Purpose of this paper is to calculate needs for shear reinforcement joints of beams and columns in reinforced concrete building structures planning due to earthquakes based on the Moment Bearing Frame System (MBFS). The structures of the building analyzed is assumed to be in Earthquake Zone 3 with the construction of reinforced concrete structure buildings. Structures and modeling analysis use the SAP2000 programs.
The results of this study shows that the shear reinforcing bar is on the beam with dimensions of 300 mm x 400 mm is two feets with the closest distance being 300 mm on the pedestal and the farthest distance was 350 mm on the field. On columns with dimensions of 400 mm x 400 mm, sliding reinforcing bar with 2-layer cross-bar reinforcing bar with a diameter of 10 mm with a spacing of 400 mm is used. The number and location of the shear reinforcing bar qualifies that the area of the attached shear reinforcing bar must be greater than the zone of the reinforcing bar analyzed.
