dc.description.abstract The purposes of this study are to describe the types of language style and find out the language function related to five language style in The Sea Speaks His Name novel. The research was conducted using a qualitative method. The data source is taken from the novel The Sea Speaks His Name. Data were collected from narration and dialogue text in The Sea Speaks His Name novel. Types of language styles are classified based on the theory of Martin Joss The Five Clocks (1976). The ‘Clocks’ were levels of formality in spoken and written English, and another focused to describe language function based on Holmes (2001). There are 24 data, and the results of this study are 1 (one) data as Formal Style, 7 (seven) data as Consultative Style, 11 (eleven) data as Casual Style, and 5 (five) data as Intimate Style used in the novel. The language function was analyzed from the 24 language style data; expressive function (6 utterances), directive function (4 utterances), referential function (7 utterances), poetic function (2 utterances), metalinguistic function (1 utterance), phatic function (4 utterances).en_US
