A democratic system of government is a form of government where sovereignty rests with the people as a whole, and is run directly by the people, or by officials elected by the people. In a democratic government, elections are carried out by conventional voting, namely traditional elections which still use ballot boxes, paper for punching, ink, needles, and election locations. However, the conventional ballot-and-paper voting method faces a number of problems, such as vulnerability to damage to voting materials, heavy workload for election officials, vote counting errors, and lack of transparency in vote counting. In order to overcome these problems, this research designed and implemented a website-based e-voting application that utilizes the Ethereum blockchain technology. Using this technology, voting data cannot be changed, duplicated or deleted, resulting in a high level of security in voting. Apart from that, blockchain technology also ensures that voter confidentiality is well maintained. The use of a web-based application allows voters to cast their ballots easily, with just an internet connection and a web browser, without having to be physically present at the election location. The results of research and testing of the system show that this e-voting application can facilitate the voting process, increase transparency by providing public access to voting data, and maintain the integrity and confidentiality of voter data. In addition, this application can also verify votes and validate valid voters, increasing public confidence in election results. Thus, e-voting applications utilizing the ethereum blockchain technology have great potential to increase efficiency and confidence in democratic elections.
