The tofu industry is one of the home industries throughout Indonesia, one of which is located in Batang Kuis. There are many tofu industries in Batang Kuis District, one of which is 1 industry in Batang Kuis District, namely Mrs. Amira's, this industry has a soybean production capacity of 400 kg/day with a total wastewater volume of 8,000 L/day, Mrs. Amira's tofu industry has been operating for 9 hours. Considering the potential pollution of tofu industry liquid waste on the environment, it is necessary to process tofu waste appropriately and correctly. The aim of phytoremediation is to use water hyacinth to clean polluted or contaminated environments, such as water polluted by chemicals, water hyacinth can absorb, reduce, or breaks down pollutants in water through a phytoremediation process, helping to restore water quality and the environment naturally. The process of using phytoremediation of water hyacinth plants is a method chosen to manage liquid waste from the tofu industry. The planned IPAL consists of an equalization tank, a sedimentation tank and a phytoremediation tank, and an absorption well. The estimated COD value of effluent processed from WWTP is 39.5 mg/L, BOD 20.5 mg/L, and TSS 22.5 mg/L, and PH 6. In accordance with Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. 68 of 2016, the quality value of effluent has reached the quality standard requirements.
