Redesigning the Layout of Production Area of The Brick Factory to Reduce Material Handling Distance Using Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) Method (Case Study at PT. Surya Jaya Agung, Sei Buluh Village, Perbaungan District, Serdang Bedagai Regency).
PT. Surya Jaya Agung is a processing industry that produces both solid red bricks and concrete bricks with a capacity of 15,000 pieces per day or approximately 35 tons per day. To meet customer demand for the company's products, the company aims for high productivity with an effective and efficient work system. The current condition shows that the production area used for production activities is 2,570 m², while the actual material handling distance is 160 meters. To address this issue, research was conducted to obtain a factory layout that would reduce the distance between departments, thereby reducing material handling and optimizing the production area using the Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) method. Based on the Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) method, two alternatives were obtained for the redesign of the factory layout. Among the two alternatives, Alternative I is the best solution, where the proposed redesign will save the production area from 2,570 m² to 2,306.1 m², a difference of 263.9 m². This Alternative I will also save the material handling distance from 160 meters to 43.65 meters, a difference of 116.35 meters.
