Hard steel cutting has been studied for more than 30 years. Until recently, hardened steel cutting was still attractive as a strategy to increase productivity in the metal cutting industry. Since the cut of hardened steel is done without cutting the liquid, dry cutting counts as an added bonus for productivity where avoiding cutting fluids means reducing production costs while saving the environment. Hard machining has been successfully carried out with CBN and Ceramic chisels, and recently, many studies on hard machining using coated carbide chisels have been carried out. Typically, steel cutting is done using the wet machining method. However, considering the development along with the enactment of the law on the environment, this method is not recommended, but rather the one that is widely used in current processes using the dry machine method. The research in this thesis is aimed at knowing the tool wear characteristics of the insert lathe (Insert Tips), namely CVD Ticn / al203 / TiN and PVD Compound in the dry turning process using Alloy Steel VCN 155.
