This study aims to determine whether there is an effect of welding current on the tensile strength quality of BjTP24 reinforcing steel resulting from SMAW welding and whether there is an effect of welding current on the tensile strength of the welded area of BjTP24 reinforcing steel resulting from SMAW welding. This study used plain reinforcing steel which was treated with welding current variations of 80 Amperes, 90 Amperes and 100 Amperes using reverse polarity DC SMAW welding with an E7018 electrode with a diameter of 3.2 mm. DC reverse polarity, namely the electrode holder is connected to the positive pole and the parent metal is connected to the negative pole. The type of seam used is seam V with an angle of 45°-60° and then the specimen is tested in tension.
The average tensile strength for the 80 Amperes current group was 523.69 N/mm2 while for the 90 Amperes current group it was 558.18 N/mm2. It can be seen that there is an increase in strength of 34.49 N/mm2. However, the tensile strength for the 100 Ampere current group was 531.08 N/mm2, in this case the strength decreased by 27.10 N/mm2 from the 90 Ampere current group, but this value was still above the tensile strength of the 80 A current group with an increase of 7.39 N/mm2. The highest strain value was obtained for the 90 ampere current group with a value of 7.71%, while for the 80 amperes and 100 amperes current group it decreased with 1.04% and 3.07% respectively.
