High rainfall intensity is one of the factors causing inundation in an area which is a problem with drainage in Medan City, this is increasingly worrying in recent years, because drainage cannot accommodate rainwater runoff. The purpose of this study is to find out what problems make puddles not fully flow when the rain discharge is very large and it is necessary to know what methods are feasible to use in rainfall intensity in determining the flood discharge plan at the research location. This research method uses quantative by calculating the planned flood discharge using rational methods and comparing the Mononobe method and Van Breen method. From the results of the flood discharge analysis of the 2-year anniversary period design for square-type drainage, a QEcsisting value of 5,357 m3/sec and QRasional of 4,578 m3/sec was obtained. So that the results of the comparison of QRasional and QEcsisting can be seen that the cross-section of the drainage channel on Jl. Dormitory Sei Kambing C-II Medan Helvetia square type with the Mononobe method is more feasible to use, while with the trapezoidal drainage type it is not able to accommodate rainfall discharge using the Van Breen method where QRasional is 2,561m3 / sec and the value for the discharge capacity of the QEcsisting channel is 5,357 m3/ sec, The calculation results that the value of the channel discharge capacity is greater than the value of the planned flood discharge is smaller, so the capacity proves that the drainage channel is able to accommodate water flow if the rainfall intensity is high.
