Flooding and inundation in urban areas and densely populated areas is a conventional problem that has not been resolved, and sometimes is still a multi- party problem. The cause of flooding, apart from drainage which is unable to drain rainwater optimally, is also due to the lack of public awareness of maintaining drainage channels. This writing also aims to evaluate the ability of existing drainage channels to be able to cope with flooding in the Jalan Aksara area, Medan Tembung District, Medan City. The results of the research show that comparing the existing primary channel discharge to the flood discharge, it was found that the existing channel discharge or Q storage capacity was 0.160 m³/second and the flood discharge for the 10 year return period was Q = 474 m³/second, from the analysis results the channel was no longer able to accommodate flood discharge and planning or changes to the dimensions of the drainage channel must be carried out to overcome the flooding problem, so from the results of the planning analysis the value of the existing primary channel discharge or Q of the storage capacity is 0.609 m³/second. After planning is carried out, the existing channel is able to accommodate flood discharge.
